Our 2nd day in Yangon – Eden Center & PYCC
Dear brothers and sisters,
The day started early, with everyone gathering for breakfast. It was a great time to talk and get to know each other better—especially those from different churches.
Later, we set off for Eden Center, where we would meet mothers of children with disabilities. To get there, we took a taxi and had to squeeze four people into the backseat for a 30-minute ride. It was tight, but still an enjoyable trip as we prayed together, asking God to continue His work in this country.
On the way, it began to pour—much heavier than the rain we’re used to in Seattle. We stopped at a nearby restaurant for some local food, completely drenched from the walk. After eating, we made our way to Eden Center, which wasn’t too far.
At the center, we met many mothers—most of whom were new to the program. We started the gathering with worship and games. Even though the worship was in Burmese and I didn’t understand the words, I felt God’s Spirit moving powerfully. Several mothers were brought to tears during worship, and in that moment, I felt God reminding me of how pure their hearts are and how delighted He is in them.
The games that followed brought so much joy—both to the mothers and our team. Their smiles and laughter melted our hearts, and I couldn’t help but smile and laugh along with them.
During Candy’s sharing, we were blessed to have Mei Huern translate. It was beautiful to witness how the mothers connected with the testimony. Pastor Andy then gave a message that was both engaging and thought-provoking. He challenged them to reflect on why they follow their current religion, Buddhism, which sparked meaningful discussions about Christianity. It was fascinating to see the diverse understandings of Christianity among the mothers. We praised God for softening their hearts and stirring curiosity in them—a seed has been planted, and we now pray for God to grow it.
After Eden Center, we headed to PYCC to meet the children. We received such a warm welcome and were brought upstairs to their church. There, we were greeted by a large group of smiling kids. After some introductions, Joanne shared her testimony, which touched many hearts—both among the team and the children.
We ended that time with prayer, hugs, and more smiles before heading downstairs for dinner. I was genuinely surprised by how efficient the kids were in setting up tables and working together to serve food. During dinner, we each sat with different groups. I personally got to know a girl who was speaking English for the first time—and yet, she sounded so fluent!
We talked about school, and laughed about how we both preferred sleeping over studying. She later brought me to her classroom to show me her textbooks and even had me read some of what she’s learning. I was amazed—these 12th graders were learning topics I had only just encountered in college!
A few other students joined us and shared their favorite subjects. The girl then took me to her room, where I saw two bunk beds. She explained that two girls shared each bed—eight girls in total. We spent some time drawing together, and they asked questions about the U.S. and what life was like there.
As our visit came to a close, our team left a large card and gave each child a small gift. It was a lovely time, filled with joy and love. I can clearly see God at work in their lives.
- Please pray for the parents and their children at the Eden Center. Many of them are new to Christianity—may God use the Eden Center to bless their lives and draw them closer to Him.
- Pray that the children at Eden Center receive the best possible care and education, and that their needs—both physical and spiritual—are met with love and excellence.
- Lift up the youth at PYCC in prayer. May God continue to strengthen their faith and fill their lives with hope, purpose, and a deep sense of His presence.
